The Erskine College Department of Business is opening a Small Business Support Center (SBSC).  The hope is to become a resource for sharing ideas in which small businesses might benefit, but don’t have the time to go find themselves in between the day to day challenges of running a business. Whether it is cutting costs using technology, finding new markets, growing your customer base through better utilization of your mailing lists, or other best practices.

We have put together and continue to develop a solution center with four major capabilities, including:

• Student Projects where selected companies gain assistants on specific business problems, performing market research, or working on comprehensive build out of integrating new technology systems. For example, one project included competing student teams working to plan and execute a marketing and sales campaign for a weekend promotion. In that example, one retail shop increased profits by over 300% of historical benchmarks, and the other by over 800%.
• Resource Clearinghouse including seminars, workshops, consulting, and mentoring.

• Solution Showcase where the latest technologies for running a small businesses can be demonstrated by appointment.
• Incubation Spaces where companies can apply for around $10K of free resources including a cubicle space, phone, copier, free hours of consulting etc.
