Admission into the Athletic Education Program (ATEP) is a competitive process, and the number of students accepted is limited according to the number of clinical instructors and attrition. Standards for admission may vary year to year due to the caliber and number of applicants. Therefore, meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee admission. Students seeking admission into the ATEP must meet the following criteria and will make application in the spring semester:
Application Criteria
Admission to the ATEP is competitive and requires the following:
- Completion of PE 216 and PE 226 with a B or higher
- a minimum of 60 hours under the supervision of the Erskine College Athletic Training Staff
- a minimum GPA of 2.5
- completed application materials
- ATEP recommendation forms
- signed copy of technical standards
- an interview with ATEP staff and students
Transfer students may apply to the ATEP in the fall or spring semester if the admission criteria are met. The number of students accepted is limited according to the number of clinical instructors and attrition within the major. Standards for admission may vary year to year due to the caliber and number of applicants. Therefore, meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee admission. Credit for previous coursework is evaluated by the college Registrar and the ATEP Director.
Selection Criteria
- Students will be accepted into the ATEP based on the following:
- Grade point average in pre-requisite courses
- Overall grade point average
- Interview
- Athletic Training Center observation
- Essay
- Recommendations
- Application packet presentation
- Signed copy of the Technical Standards
- Final transcript
- Copy of Professional Rescuer CPR/AED Certificate
