We seek to help our majors understand:
• fundamental and applied concepts in the biological
sciences;
• scientific ways of discovering, thinking, and learning;
• skills (both technical and cognitive) that will be
needed for career or further study; and
• the role of biological principles and processes in
society and the real world.
We work to make connections between what our students already
know, what we're teaching, and contemporary issues that are
relevant to their careers and their personal lives.
We strive to keep our students actively engaged in their own
learning, including asking and investigating their own questions,
devising and experimentally testing their own explanations,
and communicating their ideas and findings to others.
