to learn about defensive mimicry by studying the Monarch

A good number of Biology majors participate in original research,
either on or off campus. Each of Erskine's Bio faculty are
involved in ongoing research, and each term there are opportunities
to participate in experiments addressing such topics as biotechnology,
microbiology, conservation biology, environmental toxicology,
and predator/prey interactions.

recent publications and presentations arising from these projects.
In addition to on-campus research during the academic year,
EC Bio students conduct summer research either with an Erskine
prof or another institution. Erskine makes use of the National
Science Foundation's Research in Undergraduate Education (REU)
program, which enables small-school students to conduct 10-12
week projects at major research institutions. Students have
recently worked at institutions such as Emory, Purdue, Baylor,
and the Universities of Florida, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
