Understanding other languages and cultures besides your own fosters understanding and appreciation of the wider world. Language skills expand your abilities and opportunities for community service, travel, and careers in an economy that every day becomes more international and interdependent. Modern language study also improves communication, cultural enrichment, creativity, and self-awareness.
Erskine College’s modern language program emphasizes language acquisition and the study of culture, civilization, literature, and literary analysis.
Continuing their learning beyond our borders, all Spanish majors spend at least one semester studying abroad. Erskine’s international programs provide students with immersion in a foreign culture and help them gain fluency in the language.
Graduating Spanish majors go on to teaching positions, further study in graduate school, or a variety of jobs with the government, social agencies, and business enterprises.
Many students combine their Spanish major with another degree from Erskine, further widening their career options.
