Music Facilities on Campus
Memorial Hall (1912) houses the music department and is the venue of most musical events. The recently-renovated auditorium seats an audience of 300 in a fine acoustical space, which features a 2007 Marshall & Ogletree organ (3 manuals, 36 stops), and a Peter Fisk single harpsichord.
At the beginning of 2008 we opened a new facility: the Joe and Nina Moss Mathematics and Music Educational Complex, a large expansion to Memorial Hall includes the Cheryl Moultrie Music Education Center, which houses new classroom, office, and practice space, as well as the music library, a recital hall, and a recording studio.
In addition to the new Marshall & Ogletree instrument, students have access to the following organs on campus: a 1920/1996 Kimball-Payne in the college church ( 4 manuals, 40 ranks), and a 1985 Wicks in the seminary chapel (2 manuals, 15 ranks); a 1965 Holtkamp (3 manuals, 34 ranks) will eventually be rebuilt and housed in the new music building
The department also presents events in the chapel of Bowie Divinity Hall (1985) and in the Due West Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. The flexible gallery space of the Bowie Arts Center (1995) is host to some musical programs; the Arts Center also contains $1 million Baldwin collection of mechanical musical instruments. Lesesne Auditorium, in the Erskine Building (1892), is also used for large events.
