About Dr. E.B. Kennedy
Dr. E.B. Kennedy was one of Erskine's most revered alumni and teachers and one of the most beloved ministers of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. He was a scholar, a leader, a vigorous thinker and a Christian gentleman.
He attended Erskine College from 1884-89 where he received his A.B. degree. His Master of Arts was from Yale University. The Doctor of Divinity degree was conferred on him by Presbyterian College.
In 1898 he graduated from Erskine Theological Seminary. His first pastorate was in Bartow, Florida, where he served until 1905.
In 1913 he was elected professor of Latin and French at Erskine College. He was part of the Erskine faculty for thirty-five years. He served as minister of the Bethlehem Church for almost 41 years.
Dr. Kennedy had the honor of being elected Clerk of the Synod for some forty years by the General Synod of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Kennedy passed away in 1962 at the age of 91.
About the Scholarship
Two full scholarships will be granted for the academic year covering tuition, room, board, fees minus any state, federal, and outside scholarships or grants. The value of the scholarship, over four years, currently exceeds $90,000. Each scholarship is renewable for a total of four years of study at Erskine College dependent on the student upholding the ideals and standards of The E.B. Kennedy Scholarship Program.
The Directors are looking for creative individuals whose activities reflect qualities of leadership and service in their respective schools, churches, and communities. It is anticipated that candidiates will have a GPA of 3.5 or better and that those w ho take part in the semifinals will average 1100 or 1180 recentered on their college boards.
The Scholarships, based solely on merit, are made to scholars selected for their Christian commitment, leadership potential, scholastic achievement, and vigorous outlook.
Initial Nominations
(No interview- judged from nomination form only and selected by the Directors). A guidance counselor, principal, or headmaster may nominate students they deem qualified. An Erskine College alumnus may coordinate a nomination through a high or preparatory school. Completed nomination forms must be returned to:

Deadline for completion of forms is October 15. All forms and information received shall be the private property of the Program. It is anticipated that about 60% of the candidates will advance to the Semifinal level.
Semifinal Nominations
Candidates selected will be interviewed once by a Semifinal Selection Committee at Erskine College during the first week of December. Up to 24 semifinalists will be recommended to the Final Selection Committee.
Final Nominations Candidates selected at the Semifinal level will be invited to participate in Final Interviews in early January. Peer recommendations will be required. The Final Selection Committee will recommend to the Directors the candidates it deems most qualified to become E.B. Kennedy Scholars.
