Biology

Erskine College invites applications for a one-year position in biology. The position, to begin in August 2008, will most likely be filled at the assistant or associate professor level. We intend to conduct a tenure track search the following year.

Responsibilities:
Teaching (24 hours/academic year) will include some combination of Genetics, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Evolution, and Introductory Biology for Majors (each with weekly lab). Specific courses will depend on interests and experience. A new science center was completed at Erskine in 1999.

Qualifications:
Ph.D. preferred, ABD will be considered; demonstrated experience in college teaching; and demonstrable enthusiasm for teaching in an undergraduate liberal arts environment. Salary is negotiable. Candidates concerned with integrating faith and reason are desired.

Mathematics

Erskine College announces a full time, tenure-track position in the Mathematics Department, beginning fall 2008. Appointment will most likely be at the assistant professor level.

Requirements:
Ph.D. in mathematics with specialty in algebra and a minimum of eighteen semester hours (graduate credits) in computer science are required. The person selected should demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduate mathematics and the ability to teach courses in computer science including Programming in C++ and Data Structures. Normal teaching load is 8 courses (24 contact hours) per year or a 4-1-3 semester course assignment.

New Testament (Seminary)

Erskine Theological Seminary, the graduate school of Erskine College and founded in 1837 by the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church (ARP), invites applications for the tenure track position in New Testament with the specific duty of teaching required and elective Bible courses. It is desirable that applicants be able to teach from the Old Testament as well. The appointment begins September 2008, and will be located at the seminary’s Columbia, SC satellite campus location.

Upright character, good interpersonal skills, pastoral experience, excellence in classroom teaching, potential for publication, and a concern for the spiritual formation of pastoral candidates are essential. A Ph.D. in a relevant Biblical discipline is required; ABD and D.Min applicants are not eligible for this position.

Candidates must be willing and able to sign ex animo the ARP General Synod’s definition of an evangelical Christian and subscribe to the confessional documents of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church (Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms).

Specific duties and responsibilities of the position:


Teach Bible and Biblical language courses as assigned by the Dean. The normal course load for this position will be six courses per academic year, including teaching at various off-campus sites.
Be able to work respectfully, supportively, and encouragingly with a diverse student body that encompasses a variety of theological and denominational perspectives. Participate regularly in chapel programs, worship services, and lecture series. Represent the seminary to the various denominational constituencies represented among the student body of the seminary, and at any other events deemed necessary by the Vice President or the Dean of the seminary. Serve faithfully on faculty committees as assigned by the Dean. Serve as dissertation/thesis advisor or reviewer for D.Min. and Th.M. candidates.

Instructor or Assistant Professor of Physical Education


Full-time, tenure track position in the Department of Health, Physical Education, Sports Management, and Athletic Training to begin January, 2008 or August 2008

Duties: Teaching a variety of undergraduate Physical Education courses and supervision of student teaching

Applicants should be capable of teaching the following courses: Introduction to Physical Education, Elementary Physical Education Methods, Adaptive Physical Education, Team Sports, Theory of Coaching, Personal Health, Individual Sports, and Physiology of Exercise. Applicants should also be qualified to supervise student teaching.

Qualifications: A terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) is preferred. A masters degree in physical education and demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching are required. Public school teaching experience is strongly desired.

French

Tenure-track position starting Fall of 2008 for a generalist in French language, civilization and literature.

Requirements: Ph.D. in French. Native or near native French, fluent English. Teach all levels of language, literature, and civilization courses. Assistant Athletic Trainer/Instructor in ATEP


Category: College-Academic/Educational and Dual Appointment

Description:
Erskine College seeks a full-time assistant athletic trainer and tenure-track instructor in the CAATE accredited ATEP to begin August 1, 2008. Institution pays national and state dues and a portion of continuing education expenses. This is a newly created position due to addition of sports.

Athletic Responsibilities:
Providing athletic training services to: women's lacrosse and volleyball. Other duties include: assist in the daily operation of the Athletic Training Center, maintaining supply inventory, maintaining athlete's medical records on SIMTRAK injury tracking software, and other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Academic Responsibilities:
Serving as an approved clinical instructor in the ATEP through the supervision of athletic training students and teaching 2-4 hours per semester. Other duties as assigned by ATEP Director.

Qualifications:
BOC certification, Master's degree preferred, eligible for SC licensure, previous teaching and/or supervision of athletic training students is preferred.

Photography Instructor

Part time position in photography with our Art Department beginning Fall 2008.

Required Qualifications: MA in Photography, Graphic Design, or another area in studio art, exhibition record, expertise in digital and darkroom photography, Photoshop and related programs; full knowledge of the history and theory of photography.

Preferred Qualification: Interest in theory and practice of contemporary new media.

Duties: Teach an introductory and either an advanced photography course or another studio course for 3 or 6 credit hours per semester; design and supervise the construction of a conventional darkroom.

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Services, the Director of Career Services is a full-time professional staff member in the Student Services Department. The Director is a professional colleague with strength and experience in the areas of career development, employer relations, and familiarity with computer technology supporting career exploration and career guidance programs. Establish and maintain effective relationships with faculty and administrative staff;
Maintain data and publish reports to the faculty and administration concerning placement activities and placement of graduates;
Development and maintenance of a Career Services link on the institutional website;
Development of internship / externship opportunities for students;
Provide career counseling and testing for students and alumni to assist in the development of their career plans;
Advertise career services to students and faculty through freshman orientation, fliers, publications, faculty visits, classroom presentations, email, activities fairs, posters, contests, campus activities, etc.;
Provide workshops to students that build job search skills including writing resumes, cover letters, interviewing and networking;
Plan and implement special events and career fairs;
Partner with other campus groups to develop joint projects (example: mentoring program with Alumni Association);
Create and implement career focused workshops, classroom presentations, career fairs and internship programs; offer workshops several times a semester;
Develop a plan of services for students to encourage the use of career services opportunities during all four years of college;
Attend state and regional meetings
Represent career services at campus and off-campus functions;
Serve on various campus committees and task forces as assigned by the President of the institution and / or the Vice President for Student Services;
