South Carolina HOPE Scholarship
Award is $2,800.
HOPE is awarded to incoming freshman students who
do not meet the eligibility requirements for the SC
LIFE, but graduate from a SC high school with a 3.0
high school grade point average. The HOPE is for freshman
year only. SC HOPE recipients may receive the LIFE
in subsequent years providing that students maintain
a cumulative 3.0 college grade point average and complete
30 credit hours per academic year. See www.che400.state.sc.us for further information.
South Carolina LIFE (Legislative Incentives
for Future Excellence) Scholarship
$5,000 academic scholarships for South Carolina residents who meet two of the following criteria: a B (3.0) grade point average, rank in the top 30 percent of their graduating class, and 1100 score on the SAT or an ACT composite score of 24. LIFE recipients must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA and complete 30 cumulative credit hours per academic year.
South Carolina Palmetto Fellows Scholarship
$6,700 academic scholarships for residents of South Carolina based on annual guidelines, which are currently a 3.5 grade point average, 1200 SAT or 27 ACT, rank in the top 6 percent of the class or 1400 combined SAT score and a high school grade point average of 4.0 or higher. Eligible candidates must apply through their high school guidance office in the fall of their senior year. Palmetto Fellows recipients must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA and 30 credit hours per academic year.
South Carolina Tuition Grant
South Carolina offers students assistance if they
choose to attend a Private Institution. Eligibility
is determined by filing the FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov)
by June 30th; student must meet one of the following
three criteria: have at least a 2.0 High School GPA,
or must make at least a 900 SAT; and student must
be in the top 75% of his/her High School graduating

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship
Eligible high school seniors must be in the top 10%
of their class with a 1200 or higher SAT. Recipients
may receive up to $1,500 per year, totaling $6,000
for 4 years. See your high school guidance counselor
for an application if you meet the eligibility criteria.
South Carolina Teachers Loan
Freshmen and sophomores are eligible for $2,500 per
year. Juniors and seniors are eligible for $5,000
per year. Students must be a U.S. Citizen, resident
of South Carolina, enrolled in good standing at an
accredited institution on at least a half-time basis,
must be enrolled in a program of teacher education,
or have expressed an intent to enroll in such a program.
Entering freshmen must have been ranked in the top
40% of their high school graduation class and have
a SAT or ACT score equal to or greater than the S.C.
average for the year of graduation from high school
or the most recent year for which such figures are
available (currently these scores are SAT 966, ACT
19.3). Enrolled undergraduate students, including
enrolled freshmen, must have taken and passed the
EEE/Praxis I Exam and have a cumulative grade point
average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
Cancellation of loan: The loan is
cancelled at the rate of 20% or $3,000, whichever
is greater, for each year of full-time teaching in
a critical subject or critical geographic area within
South Carolina. If you teach in both a critical subject
and geographic area simultaneously, your loan shall
be cancelled at the rate of 33 1/3 % or $5,000, whichever
is greater, for each year of full-time teaching. The
subject areas deemed critical at the time you apply
will be honored for cancellation when you begin teaching;
critical geographic areas must be deemed critical
at the time of your employment. If you decide not
to teach, the interest rate shall be the rate on the
Federal Stafford Loan plus 2%. This is a variable
rate not to exceed 10.25% adjusted annually.
