Academic and Special Scholarships

Erskine offers a number of scholarships to students who demonstrate strong academic ability. Each year we offer renewable academic scholarships to freshmen. They include:

Students may receive one of the following:

* Students who receive the Presidential Scholarship cannot receive additional Erskine College funds including athletics and music.

* Students can only receive upto $3,000 in special scholarship funds.

* The number of scholarships awarded will be dependent upon the overall number of students in the freshman class.

Presidential Scholarships – The Erskine College Presidential Scholarship is the most prestigious undergraduate scholarship offered at Erskine College. The scholarship is in recognition of the fifteen individuals who have served as President of Erskine College, beginning in 1839 with Dr. E.E. Pressly, to the current President, Dr. Randall T. Ruble. The Presidential Scholarship, covers tuition, room, board and fees, minus any state, federal and outside scholarships or grants. There is also a $1000 study abroad travel stipend awarded to the scholarship recipient. The value of the scholarship over four years is approximately $125,000. The Presidential Scholarship is renewable for a total of four years of study, with an Erskine gpa of 3.0, as well as dependent on the recipient upholding the ideals and standards of Erskine College.

Solomon Scholarship

A full tuition scholarship is awarded to two students who compete in the Presidential Scholarship Competition.

Wylie Scholarship

A $20,000 scholarship is awarded to three students who compete in the Presidential Scholarship Competition.

Athletic Scholarships
– awarded in 14 men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports. Contact the director of athletics or the head coach of the sport in which you are interested. To learn more about our athletic programs, visit www.erskinecollegesports.com.

Drama/Music Scholarships – Auditions are held by the fine arts faculty to select scholarship recipients in drama, piano, voice, organ and wind instruments. For more information go to www.erskine.edu/academics/music. For drama contact Dr. Brad Christie at nbc@erskine.edu.

As soon as possible after February 1 - All students (including students who participate in the scholarship process) must file and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the Department of Education for processing.

To secure and accept all scholarships, the student must submit a $300 non-refundable Enrollment Fee and signed statement of intent. The prepaid Enrollment Fee for students is refundable until May 1, 2009. For renewal of a Trustee, Honors, Towers, Garnet, and Gold Scholarship, students must maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA.

Students may not exceed Tuition, Fees, Room and Board (Direct Costs) for Erskine College from all financial aid resources (includes Federal, State, local, and other resources of aid.) Students are responsible for the purchase of books and supplies. (Allow between $700 to $1,000 a year for books and supplies.)

Roy M. Smith Mathematics Scholarship

Awards up to $5,000 to students committed to majoring in mathematics. Student must be in the top 20% of their high school graduating class and have a minimum SAT score of 1300. To be renewed, the student must maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 and a cumulative 3.0 GPA in mathematics.

William H. Dunlap Scholarship

Several scholarships up to $4,000 are awarded each year. Students who have been deprived of one or both parents, either by death, desertion, or other conditions, which prevent such students from having normal parental care are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Applicants must be accepted to Erskine College , complete the FAFSA, and complete the Dunlap Application by May 1. For more information on the William H. Dunlap Scholarship, click here.

Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Grants

The Board of Trustees of Erskine College has established a Member of Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Grant available to ARP students, valued at up to $1,500. The Member of ARP Church Grant is an expression of the appreciation to the denomination for over 150 years of loyal support.

The ARP Church Matching Grant Program is a program designed to help make your college experience more affordable. This grant is an investment by your church in your future, and an expression of their confidence in your potential to honor Christ. Erskine College will match your church's donation up to $2000 for a total Matching Grant of up to $4000.

Scholarship/Grant Limitations & Guidelines

1. Students must be members of an Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and receive the endorsement of their session.

2. Students must be enrolled full-time. (12 or more hours per semester)

3. Students may not exceed the cost of tuition, fees, room and board in financial assistance for the academic year.

4. Students eligible for the Member of ARP Church Grant and ARP Church Matching Grant may receive any combination of these not to exceed $3,000 in Erskine funds.

5. Students eligible for the Member of ARP Church Grant, ARP Church Matching Grant, Child of Alumni Grant, Boys'/Girls' State, and/or RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) may receive any combination of these not to exceed $3,000 in Erskine funds.

6. Applications for the Member of ARP Church Grant and ARP Church Matching Grant must be received by May 1st. (Erskine funds are limited; therefore, awards are made on a first-come, first-serve basis. When funds are exhausted, matches can no longer be made even if the May 1st deadline is met.)

7. Church funds for the ARP Church Matching Grant must be received by Erskine College by September 1st.

8. Students are responsible for completing the Member of ARP Church Grant and ARP Church Matching Grant Forms and forwarding them to their pastor for completion and submission to Erskine College.

Child of an Erskine College Alumni

Awards up to $1,000 are given to students whose parent graduated from Erskine College .

RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards)

Awards up to $1,000 are given to freshmen students who attend RYLA at Erskine College . Students are nominated by their local Rotary Clubs to attend RYLA. High School sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible to apply. Contact your local Rotary Club or High School Guidance Counselor for nomination forms.

Erskine Grants are awarded based on financial need.

Music Scholarships

Auditions are held by the music department to determine music scholarship amounts. Contact the music department for more information.

Endowed Scholarships

Students are selected on criteria set by donors. Selected students will be notified by the Financial Aid Office in the fall.

Satisfactory Academic Progress

Federal regulations require recipients of Federal Pell Grant, FSEOG, Work Study Program, Perkins Loan and Federal Stafford Student Loans to meet satisfactory academic progress set by the institution which they attend. The following academic progress standards are set by Erskine College for renewal of federal financial assistance.
