"Crime Stoppers Tip Line" inaugurated on Erskine campus
Chief Randy Estep of the Erskine Office of Public Safety has announced that a new "Crime Stoppers Tip Line" is being provided for the campus by West Carolina Telephone.
The number for the new anonymous tip line is 379-2140.
The tip line number will be posted on the Erskine College Web site as well as being displayed in various spots on the campus.
Estep said callers will be asked to give "the nature of the crime, the street address, parking lot, or building, and who was involved." Callers who do not recognize the people involved in the incident they are reporting will be asked to leave "a detailed description."
Callers will remain anonymous unless they opt to leave a name and telephone number to allow a representative of the Office of Public Safety to contact them.
Erskine remains a safe campus, according to Estep. He noted that police departments in the area, including those in Abbeville, Calhoun Falls, Due West, Iva and McCormick, have their own tip lines, also sponsored by West Carolina. "We're getting on board with this," he said.
"The tip line is another tool by which our public safety office can better serve the Erskine community," Vice President for Finance and Operations Greg Haselden said.
"Our hope is that it will be used wisely so that we can better investigate public safety matters. We take seriously the job of protecting Erskine, her students, faculty and staff."
