09.05.05 Erskine College Fall Term begins Returning upperclassmen, transfer students, and incoming freshmen began the 2005-06 academic year at Erskine College today, as the school enters its 167th year. The Class of 2009 numbers 181 this year — 91 men and 90 women. The formal opening of Erskine College and Seminary is set for Sept. 13. Erskine Theological Seminary classes begin Tuesday on the Due West campus. College freshmen have been on campus since Aug. 27, participating in a weeklong orientation process and getting a jump on the semester by beginning their freshman seminar course. Student Government Association and Student Christian Association leaders and Student Life Assistants, along with other student volunteers, have been on campus for the past week to help with freshman orientation. Freshmen, who started their fall social activities with the Erskine Soiree Aug. 27, will now join the rest of the student body for a number of events. Plans for Erskine's three-day "Back-to-School Bash" Sept. 8-10 include "Shags and Shakes" at Ellenburg Pavilion Thursday evening; a performance by the Justin Eason Band on Robinson Terrace Friday night; a "Medieval Massacre" Saturday afternoon, followed by women's and men's soccer matches against conference opponent Mount Olive; and a "Black and White Party" on the Circle Saturday night. Important dates for Fall Semester 2005 include: • Annual Signing of the Book, Wednesday, Sept. 7 • Drop/Add Day, Friday, Sept. 9 • Fall Fest, Sept. 30-Oct. 1 • Homecoming Weekend, Oct. 7-8 • Fall Break, beginning after classes Friday, Oct. 21 (classes resume Oct. 26) • Thanksgiving Holiday, beginning after classes Tuesday, Nov. 22 (classes resume Nov. 28) • Final Examinations, beginning Monday, Dec. 12 (ending Dec. 16) |
