Les Paladins

Fall arts series brings variety of performances to Erskine campus

Two Fine Arts Series presentations will highlight the Erskine Arts offerings this fall.

"War Bonds: The Songs and Letters of World War II" includes 22 wartime songs, along with veterans' stories told through letters, and stars David zum Brunnen and Serena Ebhardt.

"War Bonds" is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, in Memorial Hall.

Later in the term, "Les Paladins," an ensemble taking its name from an opera by Jean-Philippe Rameau, will perform French Baroque chamber music. The event is set for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in Memorial Hall.

Also adding sparkle to the fall arts season are the "Transcontinental Piano Duo" in concert, featuring guest pianists Elaine Greenfield and Janice Meyer Thompson (7:30 p.m., Oct. 9, Memorial Hall) and the Erskine Players in a reader's theater production of "Many Happy Returns: An Evening with A.A. Milne," with selections from the plays, poems and stories of the writer best known for creating "Winnie the Pooh" (7:30 p.m., Nov. 6-7, and 3 p.m., Nov. 8, Memorial Hall).

A number of individual and group recitals as well as the Sinfonia Fall Concert (8 p.m., Oct. 24, Memorial Hall) and Fall Choral Concert (7:30 p.m., Oct. 30, Memorial Hall) will turn the spotlight on Erskine's talented students. The Department of Music will also present a late-night "Halloween Extravaganza" (11 p.m., Oct. 31, Memorial Hall).

The Department of Music will again offer "An Erskine Christmas," this year focusing on "The Characters of Christmas." Tickets go on sale Nov. 3 for two performances in Memorial Hall -- at 8 p.m. on Dec. 5 and at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 6.

Other highlights of the fall season include an exhibit of works by area artist Jo Ann Taylor (now through Oct. 30, Bowie Arts Center) and recitals by Associate Professor of Music Robert P. Glick, organist (4 p.m., Nov. 16, First Presbyterian Church, Greenwood) and Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Brad Parker, pianist (7:30 p.m., Nov. 20, Memorial Hall).

Parker, new to the college faculty, will make his Erskine debut in a recital featuring the Steinway D piano given by the Class of 1951.
