09.13.05 Alumni registration for winter trip to Costa Rica closes Sept. 20 Erskine alumni who wish to sign up for a 10-day trip to "Costa Rica's Jungles, Peaks and Shores" led by Professor Emerita of Biology Dr. Jan Haldeman have just a few more days to meet the deadline. The last day for registration and payment of the $200 fee to reserve a space is Sept. 20. The trip is set for Jan. 20-29, 2006. Professor of Biology Dr. Mary Lang Edwards said the Costa Rica itinerary includes time in a tropical rainforest setting, a visit to the city of San Jose, and exposure to the culture of Costa Rica. "It's a great time of year to leave cold weather behind and enjoy the tropics with its colorful flowers, tremendous variety of birds, butterflies, rainforests and the Pacific coast," she said in a letter to alumni. A Costa Rican guide will assist Haldeman, a botanist who has studied in Cost Rica and other tropical areas. The trip has been arranged by Holbrook Global Field Expeditions. Edwards said an optional class offered on the Erskine campus Jan. 19 would provide an introduction to tropical ecology and Costa Rican culture.
