Nielson and Young offer masterclass, performance

A piano masterclass with acclaimed concert pianists Stephen Nielson and Ovid Young will be offered in Memorial Hall on the Erskine College campus Saturday, Sept. 17.  They will meet with keyboard majors and minors and people with church music interests in general from 3:30-5 p.m. on the Memorial Hall stage.

Nielson and Young, who are also composers, will talk about issues of keyboard playing, arranging and composing, church music issues and other performance issues. They will have free materials to hand out, will demonstrate many of the techniques they discuss, and will conduct a question and answer session. The class is free and open to anyone interested, according to Associate Professor of Music Robert Glick.

The Nielson and Young Piano Duo will also perform Sunday, Sept. 18, in the First Presbyterian Church, located at Cambridge and Main streets in Greenwood, as part of the "Sundays At Four" series. Admission is free.

Veterans of more than 3,500 concerts, Nielson and Young have performed throughout the world, appearing in venues ranging from the Tivoli Concert Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark, to the Academy of Music in Madras, India. They have served on the artistic staff of the International Church Music Festival since 1985 and are widely published composers of music for solo and multiple keyboards, choir and orchestra.
