Erskine Ambassadors Jaselyn Jennings, center, and India Pruitt talk to visiting students

Erskine College welcomes prospective students at Preview Day

About 80 high school students and their families visited the Erskine College campus Saturday for the annual Preview Day event.

Preview Day offered students an opportunity to get to know the college through a variety of activities.

“It’s a great day for students to see Erskine College and see if we’re a good fit for them,” Director of Admissions Bart Walker said. He said about 30 students cancelled plans to travel to the Due West campus because of uncertainty about the weather.

After registration outside of the Erskine Building, students and parents moved inside Lesesne Auditorium for a brief program.

Walker welcomed the group and Student Christian Association President Rene Marshall and Student Government Association President David Dangerfield also greeted the students.

Erskine President Dr. John L. Carson also welcomed the students and briefly explained to them what Erskine is all about.

“Our motto is ‘Christian commitment and excellence in learning,’” Carson said. “We try to bring our student body together under those two ideas.”

Prospective students and their families were then led on a tour of the campus by about 40 Erskine Ambassadors— Erskine students who volunteered to help with the event.

After lunch at Moffatt Dining Hall, students and parents were separated into groups for discussion panels. Students also had a chance to meet with faculty members and representatives of student organizations and attended a session on financial aid.

Students could also attend Flying Fleet men’s and women’s soccer games during their visit. There was a cookout on the soccer field between games, and a performance by the Sandlapper Singers at Memorial Hall.
