Stukes Lecture set for Tuesday

Garrett G. Fagan, associate professor of classics and ancient Mediterrannean studies at Penn State University, will deliver this year's Stukes Lecture Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Bowie Chapel. Erskine students attending will receive convocation credit.

Fagan was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and McMaster Univeristy, Canada. His main research interests lie in the field of Roman history, on which he has published a book, "Bathing in Public in the Roman World," and numerous scholarly articles.

He has appeared on the acclaimed PBS science series "Nova" and has produced two courses with The Teaching Company, on "The History of Ancient Rome" and "Great Battles of the Ancient World."

The Joseph T. Stukes Lecture Series brings a distinguished lecturer in history to Erskine College each year. The fund was established by students and colleagues of Stukes, who served as professor of history (1966-74) and vice president for academic affairs (1966-71) at Erskine College.
