11.03.04 Family Day and silent auction set for Nov. 6 Erskine College Family Day is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6, with parents invited to spend the day with their sons and daughters on campus. Plans for the day include a silent auction, entertainment by a shag band, "The Fabulous Shades," and two Erskine vocal ensembles, a picnic, basketball scrimmages and the final performance of Erskine's fall play. Bidding on the Parent Association Council Silent Auction begins at 9 a.m., according to Erskine Associate Dean of Students Penny Thomas, who works with the Parent Association Council. The auction concludes at 1:30 p.m. Auction proceeds are used for the betterment of student life on campus. Erskine faculty members will be in their offices to meet with families from 10 a.m. to noon, and lunch begins on the Mall at 12:30 p.m, following a brief performance by the Fleetones and Immix. A shag contest on the Mall for parents, students, faculty and staff is set for 1 p.m., and the Erskine Equestrian Club Team will give a demonstration at 1:30 p.m., also on the Mall. The Flying Fleet women's basketball team will have a Maroon and Gold intrasquad scrimmage at 3 p.m. in the Galloway Center. The Erskine Players will offer their final performance of this year's fall play, "Children of a Lesser God," at 4 p.m. in Lesesne Auditorium. Family Day and the silent auction are among a number of activities planned by the Parent Association Council, led this year by David and Tracey Smith of Gastonia, N.C., who serve as co-presidents.
