Family Day activities draw crowd to Erskine campus

More than 550 guests were welcomed to the Erskine campus Saturday for Family Day, an opportunity for parents and other family members to visit with students.

Scheduled activities included a picnic lunch, a silent auction, basketball and baseball scrimmages, a performance by the Erskine Fly Girls, and an equestrian team demonstration.

A shag band, "The Fabulous Shades," also provided entertainment, and four Erskine vocal ensembles — the Choraleers, Fleetones, Gospel Choir and Immix — performed on the Mall.

Associate Dean of Students Penny Thomas said 34 faculty members were on hand to meet with interested parents and students.

"Our campus dining service, ARAMARK, along with our maintenance staff, joined with the Parent Association Council and the faculty to make this a wonderful event," Thomas said.

This year’s silent auction raised more than $5,000, Thomas said. Auction proceeds are used for the enrichment of student life on campus.

Family Day and the silent auction are among the activities planned by the Parent Association Council, led this year by Mickey and Lydia Baker of Simpsonville, who serve as co-presidents.
