New Chief Financial Officer Named

Jean Pinson, Erskine College Controller, has been named Erskine's Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, pending approval by the Board of Trustees, it was announced this week. Pinson replaces William Hall, who has accepted the position of Vice President for Business of the new Governor's School of the Arts and Humanities in Greenville.

1998 in Review

During a historical 1998, Erskine College, in its 160th year, laid the foundation for a new millennium by naming a new president and new dean of the seminary, and completing construction on the largest classroom facility on campus.

Dole Update

The Salisbury Post in Salisbury, N.C., writes a regular column on its most famous daughter, Elizabeth “Liddy” Dole, President of the American Red Cross. The Erskine Public Relations Office sent the Post a news release informing the paper that Dole would be the college commencement speaker in May because of a connection with another Salisbury native, the later Vernon Cathey, Dole's uncle. The following article appeared recently in the Post, and we thank Cal Koonts for sending us a copy.

Faculty Profile: Brad Christie

Using volunteerism as a way to teach real life applications of classroom lessons, an Erskine professor is changing the way his students learn. English professor Brad Christie requires his freshmen composition students to complete a minimum of 12 hours in a service learning project.

Library Gift

McCain Library at Erskine College and Seminary has received a gift of books by famed author Erskine Caldwell. The 66 books, many of which are first editions, were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Pressly M. Millen, Jr., of Wilmington, N.C.
