Julianne
Baird to Perform at Erskine
If spring sunlight could be translated into
sound, it would probably be a lot like Julianne
Baird, said the Opera News, quoted in
the Feb. 15, 1998 edition of The Philadelphia
Inquirer.
Julianne Baird, soprano, will present an evening
of Music From the Jane Austen Notebooks,
accompanied by Erskine professor of music Dr. Matthew
Manwarren, at a performance beginning at 8 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 5 in Memorial Auditorium on the
Erskine College campus. Narrators for the evening are
Erskine English professors Dr. N. Bradley Christie
and Dr. Joan Little.
Baird, a native of Statesville, N.C., is a
musicologist who earned her Ph.D. at Stanford
University and teaches at Rutgers University. The
author of Introduction to The Art of
Singing by Johann Friedrich Agricola
(Cambridge University Press), she combines an
academic career with a commitment to early music
performance. Her singing has been described by the New
York Times as artistry of a high
order.
Admission to the performance is $5, and the
public is welcome to attend.
