Erskine Awards
Daniel Stinson Bell Scholarships
Jessica Lee Dawkins, Jan Marie Haussmann and
Elizabeth Marie Koon are this year's recipients of
the Daniel Stinson Bell Scholarship awards at Erskine
College. The Daniel Stinson Bell Scholarship Fund was
originally established in May 1984 by Dr. and Mrs.
Charles Bell of Chester to honor and perpetuate the
memory of Dr. Bell's brother, Daniel Stinson Bell,
who graduated from Erskine College in 1931. The
program was expanded recently when Erskine received a
$7.5 million gift from the Bells' estate, the second
largest gift in the institution's history.
According to Erskine Financial Aid Director
Rebecca Pressley, the Daniel Stinson Bell Scholarship
is a full tuition and fees scholarship, with the
selection of three scholars based on Christian
commitment, academic achievement, exceptional
character, and unselfish service.

and Mrs. Daniel Dawkins, 731 Carolyn Drive, Clinton,

1997 and 1999.
In addition to the Daniel Stinson Bell
Scholarship, the Bells established the John
Montgomery Bell Chair in Biblical Studies at Erskine
Seminary in honor of Dr. Bell's father, founder of
the Chester Telephone Company. With a spirit of
thanks to God for His goodness , a great tribute is
due Dr. and Mrs. Bell for their humility and
contributions to further the cause of Christian
higher education at Erskine College, said
Erskine President Dr. John L. Carson.
