Canadian Rockies Panorama Planned For Erskine Alumni

Erskine Alumni Director Ralph Patterson has plans for the alumni association he serves. One is to get its members to go places — together. A summer trip called "Canadian Rockies Panorama" is in the works for July 17-24, and Patterson is urging alumni to sign up, with $100 initial deposits due by Feb. 17, 2004.

"I have absolutely no experience in traveling in the Canadian Rockies, although living in Boulder, Colorado, for 30 years qualifies me as being a 'Rockies Guy,'" said Patterson, who is arranging the alumni trip through Collette Vacations.

The Canadian Rockies Panorama itinerary includes stops in Edmonton, Jasper, Lake Louise, Banff, and Calgary. Among the activities featured are a visit to Fort Edmonton Park, Canada's largest historic park, and a ride down the Icefields Parkway, which parallels the Great Divide. The maximum elevation on the itinerary is 7,000 feet.

Patterson said Mary Lou Pearson, a member of the Erskine Class of 1950, suggested the Canadian Rockies trip.

"We'll be enjoying beautiful and spectacular views, wonderful cool temperatures and low humidity, all in the middle of the summer," he said. "We will be in a region of North America that is so different from what we are accustomed to, but still close to home, and we'll stay in some wonderful hotels."

Per person rates for the Canadian Rockies Panorama trip are $2,749 for single occupancy, $1,999 for twin occupancy, and $1,969 for triple occupancy. The price includes round trip air fare from Charlotte, N.C., and hotel transfers, as well as six breakfasts and four dinners. A cancellation waiver and travel insurance of $100 per person may also be purchased.

"After February 17th, we will try to add people to our trip, but Collette opens it up on a first come, first served basis after that date," Patterson said.

As reservations begin coming in for the Canadian Rockies Panorama, Patterson said a golf trip to Pebble Beach, Calif., is in the planning stages for the fall of 2004.
