"Knowledge joined with morals"
Since 1839

Some 30 professional participants representing a variety
of careers visited the Erskine College campus for Career Day on
Thursday, March 13.
Sponsored by the Business Club and run by a team of Erskine
students, the event began with a luncheon for the visiting
participants followed by a career fair in the afternoon in Watkins
Student Center.
Vicky Williams, a junior math and accounting major from Murphy,
N.C., leads Erskine's Business Club. She also serves as a Student Life
Assistant and was named to the fall 1996 Dean's List.
"Career Day offers students great opportunties to discuss career
options with some of the top professionals in a wide variety of
professions," Williams said.
The luncheon featured a pair of Erskine alumni who returned to campus
for Career Day.
Eric Craine, a 1995 graduate in Business and French and former member
of the Erskine Business Club, is a now with Wachovia Bank in Greenville.
Craine stressed the importance of learning how to work with others,
and told Erskine students, "My experience at Erskine was learning to
live and learning to communicate with other people."
Dana Blackhurst, a 1983 Erskine graduate in early childhood education,
is Headmaster of Camperdown Academy in Greenville, one of the top five
schools in the country for bright and dyslexic students.
"I owe everything I have to Erskine," Blackhurst said. "Erskine taught
me honesty, loyalty, and most of all character. I'm very proud of my
Erskine degree."
Erskine President Dr. James W. Strobel told the students that Craine
and Blackhurst "hit the bullseye," and "what they said about higher
education is what Erskine is all about."
Strobel also commended the business club. "It's quite a feat to put
together a day like this."
Penelope Thomas, Associate Dean of Students at Erskine, notes
that in addition to the help it offers to students in their pursuit of
career choices, "Our student-run Career Day is an example of the great
leadership opportunities for students at Erskine College."
