Students in Dr. Bill Evans's Old Testament class Erskine Fall Classes Begin The second largest freshman class at Erskine College in a decade joins transfer students and returning upperclassmen for the first day of fall classes, as the school's 164th year begins today. The formal opening of Erskine College and Seminary will be held Sept. 10. Seminary classes start on the Due West campus this Wednesday and at other locations Saturday. Erskine College freshmen have had six days of orientation to prepare them for their college experience, and a number of upperclassmen, including Student Government Association and Student Christian Association leaders and Student Life Assistants, have also been on campus since Aug. 27, along with soccer players. Erskine Student Activities Director Brooke Clinton, who conducted orientation sessions on student organizations and activities, said the incoming freshmen are eager and enthusiastic. "This year's group seemed very interested to learn all that is available to them," said Clinton. "The organizational sheets keep filling up with names. I overheard several students comment that they want to try everything." "We're always excited about the buzz of the first day of classes," said Erskine Vice President and Dean of the College Dr. Donald Weatherman. "Students and faculty getting together in the classrooms are why we exist."
