Andre Bauer, and Hannah Collier Erskine Students Mark Independent College And University Day Erskine College juniors Hannah Collier and Jarvis Lamb of Columbia and Ben Stoner of Simpsonville traveled to Columbia April 21 for Independent College and University Day, proclaimed by Gov. Mark Sanford as part of Independent College and University Week in South Carolina. Collier, Lamb and Stoner joined more than 100 students from South Carolina private colleges gathered at the Statehouse to express appreciation to the South Carolina General Assembly for the South Carolina Higher Education Tuition Grants and other student financial aid programs. They took a tour of the Statehouse and met Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer. State Rep. Harry Stille and Erskine Vice President for Institutional Relations Jay West also met with the Erskine students. The event is sponsored each year by South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, Inc. (SCICU). Established in 1953, SCICU is a nonprofit organization of 20 member schools working to promote the cause of independent higher education in South Carolina.
