Erskine Alumnus To Offer Christmas Concert On Historic Baker Organ

Erskine alumnus John Pullin will serve as organist for a Christmas concert offered as a gift to the community Sunday, Dec. 9, at 4 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Abbeville.

Admission is free and the public is welcome to enjoy an afternoon tea following the program. Pullin, a noted Abbeville musician who graduated from Erskine College in 1983, served for a number of years as organist for First Baptist Church in Abbeville.

The historic organ of Trinity Episcopal Church, partially assembled in England and completed in Charleston by renowned craftsman John Baker, was delivered in time for the church's consecration in November of 1860. Legend says the organ was brought to Abbeville by oxcart. "We think it may be the only Baker organ consistently in use at the present time," said Erskine honorary alumna May Hutchinson, a member of Trinity Church.
