Convo/ Chapel Schedule

Spring 1999

Unless otherwise noted, convocations will be each Tuesday and chapels each Thursday. (both at 1:30PM). The convocation and chapel schedule for the spring semester will consist of thirty-six afternoon and evening programs.


FEB.

Tues. *2 The National Opera Company presents in English Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro at 8:00PM in Lesesne Auditorium. (DOUBLE CREDIT)

Tues. 9 STALEY LECTURES - Dr. William Edgar will speak on the topic “The Great Reversal.” Dr. Edgar holds degrees from Harvard University, Westminster Theological Seminary, and the University of Geneva. He currently serves as Professor of Apologetics at Westminster Theological Seminary.

Wed. 10 Bowie Arts Center Exhibit - Juried Youth Art Show- The South Carolina Arts Education Association sponsors the exhibit from the western region. (1:30-3:30PM)

Wed. 10 STALEY LECTURES - Dr. William Edgar will speak on the topic “Knocking on Heaven's Door: A History of Rock and Roll.” Lesesne Auditorium (8:00PM)

Thurs. 11 STALEY LECTURES - “Heaven in a Nightclub” - Dr. William Edgar will speak on the spiritual background of jazz music.

Tues. 16 The Association of Minority Students presents poetry, music, and songs. A favorite convo year after year!

Thurs. 18 The Association of Minority Students presents Minerva T. King, a storyteller from the Charleston, SC area.

Thurs. 18 STUKES LECTURES - Mr. Mark Mathabane - Mr. Mathabane is the acclaimed best-selling author of Kaffir Boy, Kaffir Boy in America, Love in Black & White and African Women. Lesesne Auditorium 4:00PM. Book signing to follow!

Tues. 23 Health Convo - Mrs. Ann Gainey from Gainesville, GA will speak on the topic “Hold on to Your Hormones.”

Tues. 23 Carolina Chamber Ensemble - The Department of Music features Dr. Rhea Jacobus, flutist, and Dr. Matthew Manwarren, pianist, in recital. Memorial Hall (8:00PM)

Thurs. 25 Soul Support - Soul support is an a capella group that took the campus by storm last year. The group resides in Nebraska and will be on tour in this area. Don't miss this Chapel!

Thurs. 25 The American String Quartet celebrates its 25th Anniversary with an American tour that includes a performance at Erskine's Memorial Hall (8:00PM).

MAR.

Tues. 2 FRANCES CARDWELL LECTURES - Dr. Grace Lucile Hill will be the guest lecturer. Dr. Hill attended Erskine College, Furman University, Clemson University, and the University of South Carolina where she earned a Ph.D.

Thurs. 4 SGA Presidential Nominations - Following nominations, the annual Institutional Survey will be distributed to students.

Sun. 7 EEB Movie - “Manchurian Candidate” Lesesne Auditorium. (8:00PM)

Tues. 9 SGA Presidential Speeches

Wed. 10 Bowie Arts Center Exhibit - Old Edgefield Pottery - Indigenous ceramics from Old Edgefield Pottery will be on display.

Thurs. *11 Presentation of endowed chairs to faculty members Dr. James W. Gettys (history) and Dr. John G. Brawley Jr. (music). (DOUBLE CREDIT)

Tues. 16 SGA, EEB, & Judicial Board Officer Nominations

Tues. 16 Koonts - Lampton Keyboard Series - Organist Jack Mitchener will perform in Memorial Hall. (8:00PM)

Thurs. 18 Jay West will speak on the topic “Can't We Just Get Along? What causes turmoil in relationships and how do we move beyond the turmoil?

Thurs. 15 David Chesnut - President of Alumni Association. Mr. Chesnut is a lawyer from Atlanta, GA and a former member of the Atlanta Olympic Committee.

Tues. 20 PECULIAR PEOPLE - (Chapel) This husband and wife drama team add humor to some of the issues which make life so complicated. Back By Popular Demand!

Thurs. 22 SCA Installation - Chapel

Th.-Sat. 22-24 STUDENT ONE ACT PLAYS. Presented by our very own Erskine Players. Time and place TBA.

Tues. 27 Career Fair - We will meet in Lesesne Auditorium and then move to Watkins Student Center where many professional and vocational leaders will be set up to answer your questions.

Tues. 27 The Erskine Choraleers present the Raymond Brock Memorial Concert. Memorial Hall (8:00PM).

Thurs. 29 Summer Work Opportunities with the summer conferences, internships and Camp Joy! Tim Melton of Greenville, SC will be the guest speaker.

Thurs. 29 SENIOR RECITAL with Miss Ann Rabon, pianist.
