Family Day Draws A Crowd To The Erskine Campus Erskine Associate Dean of Students Penny Thomas said more than 500 people participated in Saturday's Family Day, sponsored by the Parent Association Council. "More than 30 faculty members were on hand to speak with parents, the choral groups and equestrian team demonstration were great, and we had standing room only for the fall play preview directed by Dr. Joan Little," she said. The silent auction, chaired by Don and Gloria Johnson of Charlotte, N.C., and Ron and Claire Kinney of West Columbia, raised $7,294. Thomas said a committee will make decisions regarding the proceeds, which will be used for the betterment of student life. First place winners of the dance contest were Tom and Vickie Propst of Simpsonville, parents of junior John Propst. The Propsts donated their winnings to the Parent Association Council. Family Day also included an open house in newly renovated Kennedy and Robinson dormitories, men's and women's basketball intrasquad scrimmages, and men's and women's soccer games. Family Day and the silent auction are among a number of activities planned by the Parent Association Council, led this year by co-presidents Benjamin and Mary Horne of Greenville. Family Day photos
