Faculty and Staff at Erskine Welcome New Members

Erskine College and Seminary will welcome seven new faculty members and several new staff members as the academic year begins.

Erskine Vice President and Dean of the College Dr. Donald Weatherman, who hosted a dinner for new college faculty members at his home this week, said, "This is a great group of people, and I think they will make a fine contribution to our campus.

"In the previous three years, we hired a number of international faculty," he said."But this year's new faculty members come from throughout the United States, and they enjoy a wide range of interests and activities, from flower gardening to semi-pro wrestling."

Dr. Loyd Melton, Professor of New Testament at Erskine Seminary, says he is enjoying getting to know his new colleague, London native Adrian Smith. "He brings enthusiasm to his teaching and adds an international flavor to our faculty," said Melton. Melton said he and Smith, who also teaches New Testament, will teach dual sections of the introductory courses and share the teaching of electives, allowing classes to be smaller.

A College faculty retreat and opening faculty meeting were held today. College classes begin Sept. 1 and Seminary classes on the Due West campus begin Sept. 3.
