Erskine Gains Nine New Full-Time Faculty Members

A number of new faculty faces will be seen around Erskine College and Seminary this semester. Dr. Donald Weatherman, Vice President and Dean of the College, has announced the addition of eight new full-time college faculty members and Dr. R.J. Gore, Vice President and Dean of the Seminary, has announced the addition of one new full-time seminary faculty member for the 2000-01 academic year.

"I am extremely excited about our new professors," said Erskine College and Seminary president Dr. John L. Carson. "Erskine has a committed core of veteran professors and we are adding strength to strength."

On the addition of a new faculty member at the seminary, Gore said, "We are pleased to have George Schwab become part of our faculty. He brings to the table a marvelous combination of expertise in Old Testament studies and the practical application of those studies in counseling.

"His many years of service at the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation bring an added dimension to his role as scholar." Erskine Theological Seminary is currently launching its new Master of Arts in Counseling Ministry program .

"Some feared that if Erskine emphasized Christian commitment too forthrightly, we would have to settle for a lesser academic standard. Our new professors in the college and seminary prove the opposite," said Carson.

"They all have excellent academic credentials from leading universities. Although most have been involved in research and leadership in their disciplines, they all have a heart for teaching students in the classroom.

"These professors represent our number one choices for their respective positions, and they all wanted to come to Erskine as much as we wanted them to come," said Carson.

The 164th Opening of Erskine College and Seminary will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, in Lesesne Auditorium. At that time the installation of Dr. Donald Weatherman as Dean of the College will be celebrated and new full-time faculty members will be introduced.
