The groundbreaking will be held at the construction site on Bonner Street in Due West adjacent to the Bowie Arts Center. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside the arts center. A reception will follow.

The trustees and science building committee made the announcement after the fund-raising campaign reached the goal of construction cost minus $650,000 in the advanced gifts phase.

More than $826,000 has been raised toward a $3 million endowment for the upkeep of the building. Other costs associated with the building include $250,000 for equipment and furnishings and a $200,000 campaign expense budget.

Science Building Campaign Director Lee Logan said about $1 million will still be needed to complete the project after construction begins.
