Erskine College Psychology Majors Awarded Ruth Kelly Scholarships

by Richard Haldeman

The Mental Health Association in Abbeville County (MHAAC) presented Ruth Kelly Scholarships to two Erskine College senior psychology majors Nov. 14 during the association's 40th annual Mental Health Banquet, held in the Founders Room of Moffatt Dining Hall on the Erskine campus.

Nora Fuller of Tabor City, N.C., and Robin Luse of Asheville, N.C., received the scholarships given in memory of Ruth Kelly, longtime leader in the MHAAC. The scholarships are given annually to students showing outstanding potential for careers in the mental health field.

Presenting the awards was MHAAC Board member Pam Showalter, guidance counselor at Cherokee Trail Elementary School in Donalds and wife of Erskine psychology professor Dr. John Showalter.

Nearly 100 persons attended the annual banquet meeting of MHAAC. The banquet was co-sponsored by the Mental Health Association and the Abbeville Pilot Club. Dr. Janet Vandiver, president of the MHAAC, presided at the banquet.
