Women's Soccer Season Ends in 4 OT

FARMVILLE, Va. — Longwood and the Erskine Lady Fleet battled for nearly four hours in a CVAC Women's Soccer Tournament Quarterfinal Tuesday at Lancer Field before the No. 3 seed Lancers finally escaped with a 1-0 victory.

Longwood earned its eighth-straight win by taking a 4-3 edge over the no. 6 seed Flying Fleet during the shootout after four overtimes.

The two teams had played the regulation 90 minutes, plus four 15-minute extra periods, totalling 150 minutes of competition.

Longwood senior keeper Amy Kennedy proved the difference with two stops of penalty-kicks during the shootout of five alternating PK attempts by each squad.

Kennedy finished with six saves en route to posting her school-record 11th shutout this season. Longwood outshot Erskine 28-9 in the game, Kennedy had six saves for Longwood, and Erskine keeper Liz Baldwin had 17 saves.

Erskine finishes the season with a 10-8 record, which included seven straight wins.
