Lee W. Logan, Erskine College Vice President for Planned Giving and Science Building Campaign Director, has been appointed Vice President for Development, Erskine president James W. Strobel announced Sept. 4.
"Lee Logan will have the full support of my office during and after this transition so that the campaign and planned giving initiatives will not be affected adversely," Strobel pledged.
"I am enthusiastic about working directly with the the alumni and friends of Erskine College," said Logan.
Strobel expressed gratitude to Logan "for once again responding to the call for even greater service to Erskine."
Logan, an Erskine alumnus, has served in several positions at the college since 1972, when he was appointed Director of Alumni Affairs. He served as Vice President for Development from 1973 to 1990, when he became Vice President for Administration and Planned Giving.
In 1996, Logan became Director of the Science Building Campaign, retaining his responsibilities in the area of Planned Giving and dividing his Administration responsibilities between vice presidents William Hall and Monty Wooley.
In his newest position, Logan will be in charge of Alumni Affairs, Public Relations, Prospect Research, Gifts Management, Planned Giving, and the Science Building Campaign. "Lee has demonstrated his leadership capabilities in these areas as well as other areas over his 24 years of service to Erskine," observed Strobel.
Logan entered Erskine as a freshman in 1963 after graduation from Spartanburg High School. He was active on campus as a member of the Euphemian Society and the Honor Council and was elected to WhoÕs Who Among College and University Students.
Graduating from Erskine in 1967, Logan married Erskine graduate Eleanor Grier. The Logans have three childrenÑWard, an Erskine graduate and member of ErskineÕs Financial Aid Office staff; Rebecca Logan Gamble, an Erskine graduate earning a degree in nursing at Piedmont Technical College; and Ruth, a student at Dixie High School.
Logan earned a masterÕs degree in education at the University of Georgia in 1969 and before coming to Erskine was employed at the John de la Howe School in McCormick as Business Manager and Director of Social Services. He has experienced great success in the area of deferred giving, having announced in 1996-97 two deferred gifts totaling almost $2 million. His most recent major area of responsibility has been in securing funding for the new science facility.
Logan is a member of the Abbeville Rotary Club, served on the Abbeville County Development Board and on the Due West Retirement Center Board during its early years, including a term as chairman.
He helped form the Due West Rescue Squad and was an Emergency Medical Service Technician for 11 years. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Mental Health Board of Abbeville County, the Little River Electric Cooperative, the Donalds-Due West Water and Sewer Authority and the West Carolina Rural Telephone Cooperative, Inc.
In 1972 the Logans joined the Due West Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, where he has served faithfully as Sunday School teacher, deacon, and elder.
Effective immediately Dena Hodge will assume the position of Administrative Assistant for the Vice President for Development. Kathy Banks will assume the position of Administrative Assistant for Facilities Management. There is an open position for Secretary for the Campaign Office. This position will be for the duration of the campaign.
