David
Moore III Named Alumni Director at Erskine
David Moore III has been named Alumni Director at
Erskine College and Seminary effective May 15,
according to President John Carson.
"David Moore is a bright young man with
enthusiasm, energy and a love for Erskine,"
Carson said. "In the year that I have known
David, I have observed that he is dependable, a good
listener, and one who lives out his Christian
commitment day by day. Former teachers and fellow
workers alike are excited about his being our Alumni
Director."
Carson said Moore was a unanimous selection of the
search committee that included members of the Erskine
Alumni Association Board and Erskine Vice President
for Development Lee Logan.
"The Search Committee was especially
impressed with his people skills and ability to
relate to people of all ages and interests,"
Carson said.
Erskine Alumni Association Board President Sarah
Brice, of Greenville, who served on the search
committee, said, "The job of choosing an alumni
director was difficult because we had so many
highly-qualified applicants. It is the opinion of the
selection committee that David Moore will do an
outstanding job as our new alumni director. His
personal qualities, his organizational skills and his
great love for Erskine make him perfectly equipped
for the position."
She added, "His youth will serve him well,
both for his high energy level and his contacts with
our young alumni, who are so important to us."
Moore, a 1994 Erskine graduate, has served as
controller in the Erskine Business Office since 1999.
Prior to that Moore worked in the South Carolina
Office of Child Support Enforcement in Greenville.
"I believe the primary function of the alumni
office is to build relationships," Moore said.
"We need to build relationships with existing
alumni to foster alumni participation in Erskine
activities and garner support for the Living
Endowment annual funds campaign.
"The alumni office should also assist the
admissions office in recruiting children of alumni,
and work with current students our future
alumni to aid them in their transition from
student to alumni," Moore said. "Erskine's
mission does not end with graduation. Christian
commitment and learning are lifelong processes."
Moore replaces Aldon Knight, a 1990 Erskine
graduate, who left the position in February to accept
a development post at Clemson University. Moore will
be working with Administrative Assistant Ann
Hawthorne, who has more than 25 years experience in
the Erskine Alumni Office.
Carson said Moore would continue to assist the
business office until a new controller is found.
Moore and his wife Dawn, a 1995 Erskine graduate
and third grade teacher, live in Iva.
