Erskine Offers Preview Day for Incoming
Freshmen and Their Families
More than 100 incoming Erskine freshmen
and their families will preview the Erskine experience this Saturday
as the 2000 Parent Orientation and Class of 2004 Student Pre-Orientation
are offered on the campus.
"Its amazing how many freshmen
and their families come out for this event," says Associate Dean
of Students Penny Thomas, who is helping coordinate the days
activities with faculty members, the admissions office, and other
college staff members.
The morning program, held in Lesesne
Auditorium, will feature two rising sophomores, John Lucas and Blaire
Oakley, speaking on the topic "My Freshman Year." The invocation
and blessing will be delivered by Mark Stephens, member of the Parent
Association Council and father of Erskine junior Livia Stephens.
Erskine president Dr. John Carson,
and SGA president Chris Spires, will be on hand to welcome students
and their families and Dr. James Gettys, McDonald-Boswell Professor
of History, will speak to parents and students about the Freshman
Seminar Program he is directing this year.
Associate Director of Admissions
Cory Young will provide program information and students will meet
with their faculty advisors. Foreign language placement exams will
be offered, and representatives from a number of campus offices and
community organizations will speak.
The admissions office will host a
lunchtime cookout at the Ellenburg Pavilion for incoming freshmen
and students will come prepared with tape measures to check out their
assigned dormitory rooms before leaving the campus late in the afternoon.
Freshmen are scheduled to arrive for
fall term Aug. 29 and classes will begin Sept. 4.
