Loren Pinkerman, Director of the McCain Library at Erskine College and
Seminary is stepping down to take a position with LaGrange College in
LaGrange, Ga.Pinkerman became Director in 1993. Under his leadership the McCain Library has computerized its bibliographic records; installed and implemented a computer network; improved the appearance, physical organization, and furnishings of the library; established video and CD collections; implemented such online resources as DIALOG, OCLC FirstSearch, SearchBank, and the ATLA Religion Database; and preserved the historical records ofthe College and Seminary. Mr. Pinkerman was successful in acquiring three grants from the State Historical Records Advisory Board which helped to establish an integrated records management and archives program at Erskine, and to preserve on microfilm important historical records of Erskine College, Erskine Seminary, and the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Mr. Pinkerman's interest extended to the establishment of the Family History Center in the McCain Library. This center features a multi-media computer, scanner, CD-ROM recorder, and numerous CD-ROM databases. Under Mr. Pinkerman's leadership an active library instruction program was implemented and a "library materials by mail" program was established for Seminary students. The number of Inter-Library Loan requests generated is now 10 times what it was in 1993 with over 1,000 requests being placed each year. Mr. Pinkerman commented that "much of the success realized in the McCain Library has been possible because of a truly great staff who work together as a team. I'll miss my association with the library staff and with colleagues at Erskine Seminary." |
