Erskine's Samba Named CVAC Men's Soccer Player of the Year

Erskine’s Dhoud Samba has been named the 2000 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Player of the Year, as voted on by the men’s soccer coaches. The announcement of the Player of the Year was made at the annual CVAC Soccer Tournament, held in Wilson, N.C.

Samba had an outstanding season, leading the CVAC in goals scored (27), goals per game (1.42), and points per game (3.11). He finished the season ranked in the top five nationally in Division II in all three categories. He had seven multiple-goal games, including two three-goals games and two four-goals games.

Samba’s play spearheaded a much-improved Erskine team, a team that won seven of its final ten regular season games and finished sixth in the conference.

The senior from Houston, Texas, finished his career with 46 goals and eight assists. His 46 goals rank him seventh in Erskine history in career goals and his 27 goals this season rank him sixth in Erskine history in goals in a season.

"Dhoud learned to combine his speed, skill, and determination into a powerful force this season," said Head Coach Garth Pollonais. "He created havoc for every defense and earned this recognition with his fine play."

Samba is Erskine’s first player to receive Player of the Year recognition since 1989. That player was current Head Coach Garth Pollonais who was NAIA District Six Player of the Year that season.
