DUE WEST, SC - Michael Burgess, an Erskine College sophomore from Honea Path, was awarded second prize in the college division of the 1997 Concurso Anual de Poesia sponsored by the Circulo Hispanoamericano de Charleston and The Citadel's Tau Iota Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society.

The awards ceremony was held at The Citadel, with Burgess, who is from Honea Path, S.C., receiving a cash prize donated by the Circulo Hispanoamericano for his poem "El lobo." The Citadel's Department of Modern Languages hosted a reception following the ceremony.
