SUBJECT: JOHN D. SAFFOLD NAMED FIELD COORDINATOR FOR ERSKINE COLLEGE SCIENCE BUILDING CAMPAIGN

for immediate release

DUE WEST, S.C. Ð John D. Saffold of Britton's Neck, S.C., has been named Field Coordinator for Erskine College's $10.5 million dollar campaign for the construction and endowed support of a new science facility on campus, Erskine Vice President and Science Building Campaign Director Lee Logan has announced.

Saffold served as Headmaster at Dillon Christian School in Dillon in 1993-94, before earning his Master of Arts in Theological Studies at Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte in 1996.

At Dillon Christian School, he managed 150 students and 13 faculty and organized the move to a new 12-acre campus. He also organized a successful fundraising campaign for the endowment and building programs at the school.

He has worked summers for the Pee Dee Regional Council of Governments (1992), Barnwell County Government (1991), Clemson Extension Service (1990) and for a Florence architect (1989).

He is a 1992 graduate of Clemson University, where he majored in Applied Economics with a specialization in Community Development and Public Administration.

Saffold is a member of Dillon First Presbyterian Church, and is listed in WhoÕs Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. He will begin duties at Erskine March 6.

"John is a very welcome addition to the staff and brings excellent development skills which will fit well with the goals of the campaign," Logan said. "We're all excited about working with John and realizing the vision of a new science building on this campus."

The 46,000 square-foot science facility will house Erskine's chemistry, physics and biology departments, and will include a research greenhouse and computer-networked classrooms and labs.

Groundbreaking for the building is scheduled for May.
