DUE WEST, S.C. - Sure, the Erskine College Class of 1997 is small, but
they are already making a big impact, attending some of the top graduate
schools in the nation and working in fields ranging from technology to
teaching.
Erskine, an institution with a proven record of more than 150
years of
producing top liberal arts graduates despite its small stature, is
especially proud of the Class of 1997.
Of the members of the Class of 1997 pursuing employment instead of
graduate studies, 100 percent have found jobs in less than four months
from their graduation date.
Led by a school record five valedictorians, here's a snapshot of
what some of the seniors are doing today:
- Anc Clarkson, Erskine co-valedictorian, served as a summer
missionary
to Mongolian medical school students, and is now doing a research
project at Harvard University.
- Brandon Davis, Erskine co-valedictorian and 1996 South
Carolina
Private School Student of the Year, is attending medicl school at the
Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
- Sarah Hallman, Erskine co-valedictorian, is attending
medical school at Emory University in Atlanta.
- Brooks Kuykendall, Erskine co-valedictorian, received a full
fellowship and is in the Ph.D. program in musicology at Cornell
University.
- Kendall Poppell, Erskine co-valedictorian, is remaining at
Erskine,
working as an admission counselors recruiting top students to attend her
alma mater.
- Will Ragan is owner and president of his own business in
Anderson, S.C.
- Amber Shults, a Goldwater scholar at Erskine, is in the
Ph.D. program
in plant physiology at Purdue University.
- Kali Shuler Martin is a chemist with Commonwealth Labs in
Greenville,
S.C.
- Chad Reynolds holds a management position with Milliken and
Company.
- Christina Matera is employed at the Highlands Program in
Atlanta.
- Carol Ogburn is employed by the Anderson County
Department of Mental Health.
- Michelle Gates is taking courses at Columbia International
University
to become a medical doctor in the mission field.
- Kelly Moffatt is teaching English in Vietnam with the
English Language
Institute.
- Troy Tyson is the webmaster for a telecommunications
network in Anderson, S.C.
