Erskine Alumnus Named Bandy Professor
of Preaching at Emory University's Candler School of Theology
Dr. Thomas Grier Long, who received
his A.B. degree at Erskine College in 1968 and went on to earn the
Master of Divinity degree at Erskin e Seminary in 1971, has been named
Bandy Professor of Preaching for Emory Universitys Candler School
of Theology, the Presbyterian Outlook reported in its June
26 issue.
Long, who joined Geneva Press, a publishing
imprint of the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, in 1997, has been
described by Newsweek magazine as "one of the 12 most
effective preachers in the English-speaking world." He served
on the faculty of Princeton Theological Seminary prior to his appointment
at Geneva Press.
Warmly praised by Davis Perkins, president
and publisher at Geneva, Long said he leaves his current responsibilities
"with more than a little sadness."
Of his new appointment, Long said,
"The seminary classroom has always held my heart, and the Bandy
Chair promises to be a place where I can live out my calling as a
teacher of preaching."
