ERSKINE SCIENCE MAJOR AMBER SHULTS WINS FIRST PLACE FOR UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH PAPER

DUE WEST, S.C. Ð Erskine senior biology and chemistry major Amber Shults, daughter of Diane T. Shults, 522 Haven Drive, Greer, won first place for undergraduate research papers at the spring meeting of the South Carolina Academy of Science (SCAS), held at the University of South Carolina in Columbia Friday, April 11.

Her presentation was selected from among 70 papers presented by students from throughout South Carolina. The Clemson University Chapter of Sigma Xi, international scientific honor society, sponsored the SCAS competition and presented the award to Shults at a banquet Friday, April 18 in the Clemson House.

The award includes a framed certificate, a one-year membership in the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and cash awards from Sigma Xi and the Explorers Club.

Erskine College, founded in 1839 by the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, is the oldest four-year church-related college in South Carolina. Known for the strength of its programs in the sciences, Erskine is currently conducting a campaign to fund a new Center for Science and Values.
