Soccer Alumni Day

Over 130 former Erskine soccer players gathered over the weekend to celebrate Soccer Alumni Day. Saturday's events included three hours worth of "all-star" play on soggy Huggins field that pitted many of the all time great players at Erskine.
Among those who showed up
and participated were all-time leading scorer at Erskine, All-American
Charlie McGinty (right), and Garth Pollonais (on left), another high-scoring
All-American.
A number of former players who are now coaching soccer came for a visit. The group included Mike Rubesch who is coaching at Emory University; Ralph Polson at Presbyterian College; Greg Stone at Southern Indiana; and Todd McCormick who is an assistant for the South Carolina Shamrocks, a professional team that plays in Greenville.
Other former players for the men's team that participated included Anton Corneal; Raphael Carr; Matt Meyers; and two of the four Suarez brothers who played at Erskine, Mario and Arturo whose son Barron is a member of the current Erskine men's soccer team.
Among the players from the former Erskine women's teams were: Colleen Tagner Davies; Perita Shumate; Amy Medlock; and Kerrie Miller.
Also, three 'soccer couples', husband and wife who both played soccer for Erskine returned. Among them were Joe Pecko and his wife, Kris Francistato Pecko; Dave Lucido and Jessica Rudd Lucido; and Robbie Molony and Tracy Magnus Molony.
Brandon Murray traveled the farthest, from his home in Clarendon, Jamaica to the reunion.
Former player Brian Haynes, currently a member of the Dallas Burn of Major League Soccer was unable to attend with the season currently in progress, but he sent a jersey autographed by his teammates and himself to be auctioned off.
After play, there was a cookout at the pavilion.
