National Players To Perform Moliere's Tartuffe At Erskine Monday The National Players, America's longest-running classical touring company, will stage 17th-century French dramatist Moliere’s Tartuffe Monday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Lesesne Auditorium on the Erskine College campus. Tartuffe tells the story of the title character, who manages to ingratiate himself with a credulous mother and son, Madame Pernelle and Orgon. These two believe Tartuffe to be a pious man whose example will be good for the rest of their family. The play satirizes religious hypocrisy and in its original 1664 version was banned from the public stage. Moliere wrote a third version of the play in 1669, and was granted the king's permission to perform it in public. This performance of Tartuffe is sponsored by the Erskine Fine Arts Series and is part of the National Players’ 54th Annual Tour. Admission is $5 (free with Erskine I.D.) and the public is welcome.
