Honor Society Awarded Best Chapter The Erskine College Psi Xi chapter of the history honor society Phi Alpha Theta was awarded best chapter for Division I for the 2000-2001 academic year, bringing to an even dozen the number of times it has won this honor in the last 13 years, according to faculty sponsor Dr. Sandra Chaney. "The award allows us to purchase $250 worth of books for our library," Chaney said. "These students have done a great job with our organization." Last year's chapter officers were Elijah Lovejoy, president for fall semester; Carolyn Bursley, vice president, who served as acting president during spring semester; Adam Bruyere, secretary; James White, treasurer; and Josh Uhall, historian. Other members included Jason Burton, Crystal Cooper, David Carter, Jamie White, Liz Leaphart, Beth Melton, Keith Poston, Jenny White and David Rabe. This year's officers are Carolyn Bursley, president; Jamie White, vice president; Liz Leaphart, secretary; Keith Poston, treasurer; and Beth Melton, historian. Other members this year are David Carter, David Rabe and Jenny White. To be eligible for membership in the Erskine chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, students must have taken twelve hours of history, with at least two of these classes being graded classes at Erskine. Students must also maintain better than a 3.0 grade point average in their history classes, at least a 3.0 in their non-history classes and be in the top third of their class.
