Updates from the Presidential Search Committee

Search Committee Update #2

August 24, 2021

As the search for the next president of Erskine College & Theological Seminary continues, we want to provide a brief update. Throughout this process, we as a committee have learned quite a bit about ourselves and other institutions. We want the Erskine family to know that there is a respect within the higher education community for our continued commitment to our institutional mission.

Over the last couple of months, the Search Committee has received many inquiries and applications. We have been greatly encouraged by the quality of the candidates and have had productive conversations with a number of them.

Some of these candidates are familiar with Erskine while others have only recently heard of us. Regardless of their connection to the school, one thing that has been common to all is a recognition that Erskine is poised for success.

We are committed to identifying the candidate who can lead Erskine to thrive and fulfill its mission of equipping students to flourish as whole persons.

We thank those of you who have reached out to recommend potential candidates to our committee. We also thank you for your prayers on our behalf and ask that you continue to pray that the Lord grant us discernment and success as we continue our task!

Search Committee Update #1

June 3, 2021

With the retirement of Dr. Robert Gustafson in a few weeks, Erskine finds itself in a time of transition. While losing a strong leader like Dr. Gustafson may seem like a setback, the Board of Trustees realizes that this can be a time for Erskine to move forward with strength. The challenges facing institutions of Christian higher education are many, but so are the opportunities!

Finding the next president to lead us into the future is crucial and therefore a top priority of the Board. The Presidential Search Committee is committed to looking for a candidate who can bring fresh vision, innovation, and energy to Erskine. To that end, the committee is taking the necessary steps now to make sure we are in a position to attract and recruit the top candidates for this position.

Our committee has created a webpage to advertise and receive applications from candidates, as well as to provide ongoing communication with the Erskine community. We have met with a number of people from the college and seminary to solicit their input and insights into Erskine and its needs. We have committed this search to the Lord in prayer, trusting Him to lead us to the right candidate.  We ask you to join us in praying for Erskine and our search for the next president.
