Profile

Dr. Teresa Johnson Carter, Associate Professor of Education, came to Erskine College in 2019. Her responsibilities include early childhood education, literacy, and assessment courses. In addition to her work at Erskine, she is currently a reading recovery teacher leader, an adjunct professor for Clemson University, and an education consultant.  

 

Dr. Carter completed an associate of arts in Child Development, a bachelor of arts and a master of arts in Early Childhood Education, and a doctor of education in Teaching Leadership. Before coming to Erskine, she served for many years in early childhood education as a kindergarten, first, and second grade teacher, as a literacy coach, and as a reading recovery teacher. She created and implemented curriculum maps, served on the Development of State Standards Committee, and facilitated district grade level meetings.  

Personal interests

Dr. Carter’s hometown is Columbia, S.C., and she enjoys several hobbies, which include singing, dancing, and shopping.
