Provost of the College

Dr. Tom Hellams is the provost for Erskine College and Theological Seminary, a position he has held since 2018. His responsibilities include recruitment and hiring of faculty, leadership of the faculty, and curriculum oversight. He also serves as liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Previously, Dr. Hellams worked at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, as Chief of Staff, Office of the President and later as Vice President for Denominational Relations. He served as a distinguished visiting professor at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina, and as visiting professor in the Billy Graham School of Missions, Evangelism, and Church Growth at Southern Seminary in Louisville. He is also an alumnus and a former trustee of Erskine College.
Awards and Honors
In 2002, Dr. Hellams was named to the Honorary Order of the Kentucky Colonels, the highest civilian honor conferred by the governor of Kentucky. In 2012, he received the Alumni Achievement Award at Anderson University.
Dr. Hellams and his wife Tena have two grown children, Katie Ellen and John Thomas III. They have four grandchildren, Claire Elizabeth, Hannah Leigh, Ellen Amelia, and Mason Thomas.
